<-Back To Who We Are

Kelvin Fox is a geologist and qualified Primary School teacher. I graduated with honours in applied Geology from the University of Technology, Sydney, in 1988 and immediately moved to WA as I had employment opportunities in WA upon graduation. Over the next 21 years I worked exclusively in WA in gold, nickel, base metals (copper, lead and zinc), mineral sands, iron ore, vanadium, manganese and uranium exploration. Over this time I have worked in many remote parts of the WA outback and I have been exposed to the majority of exploration techniques currently used by the WA exploration Industry.

During the period 1990-1991 I completed a Graduate Diploma in Exploration and Mining Geology from James Cook University in Townsville QLD.

I have always had a keen interest in minerals and mineral collecting and I have worked voluntarily in the curatorial department of the now closed NSW Geological and Mining Museum identifying a large range of minerals and rocks. During my undergraduate years I amassed a collection of several thousand specimens, which were housed, in my bedroom. Unfortunately I no longer have this collection and we have had to build the Geo-Ed teaching collection fundamentally from scratch.

In 1992 I met Melanie Gibbons. We were married in 1993 and the first of our 5 children was born in 1994. Our last child was born in 2004. Melanie is currently studying early childhood and primary school teaching at Murdoch University.

In 2005 I undertook a year of study to obtain my Graduate Diploma of Education from Murdoch University, WA.

Despite undertaking a teaching qualification I have remained permanently active in the exploration Industry and I am currently providing contract geology services to two small publicly listed exploration companies searching for a range of mineral commodities in various locations in WA.

I am a member of the AusIMM (Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy) and WACOT.

When I am not thinking about geology or education, I can be contacted in the spectator areas of Perth Motorplex, where my 14-year-old son and I are keen spectators of Drag Racing. I was previously a flag marshal at Waneroo raceway. I also like test cricket and when I was in high school I won a NSW state junior ten pin-bowling tournament.
